What Happens Next?

My advice to anybody wanting to start to take driving lessons is this: it is very important that the pupil feels comfortable and happy with not only the instructor but also the car.

I would advise to have a single lesson or 2, to ensure the pupil is satisfied with the instructor and the car before committing to a block booking.

After this stage, a block booking is a good idea as not only does it save money for the pupil it also encourages the pupil to take lessons regularly, therefore taking part in the learning process consistently.

Revising for the theory test can run alongside the practical lessons with the pupil booking up their theory independently when they feel they are ready. Some people do complete there theory before starting driving lessons, this is fine.

How will the lessons go?

Every pupil receives an assessment pack which is good for the pupil to look at to remind them what they did last lesson and to let them know what will be covered in the next lesson.

The first lesson is some paper work and then we go through the controls on the car. After this, we go through how to move off and stop safely and then………. we’re away! I am always there to encourage and prompt and adapt well to those who pick things up quickly and those who need some extra time. Nothing is a problem.

After the 1st lesson, depending on each individual pupil, we move on to:

  • Approaching new roads
  • Emerging into new roads
  • How to deal with crossings and crossroads
  • Roundabouts
  • Built up areas
  • Manoeuvres
  • Under the bonnet
  • Dual carriageways
  • Flyovers
  • Country lanes
